Happy Mother’s Day

For many of you; Mother’s Day’s is the one day of the year where you get to sit back and relax.  For me? Not so much.

It’s been somewhat of an unsaid family tradition to work on Mother’s Day- Together as a family. It has been that way for as long as I can recall – from the 1st mother’s day when I was old enough to work. I presume that this is the norm for members of a family run business – to forgo certain holidays to create special memories for others.

In the past there has been many a year when more of my family were working then not. Typically my grandmother Jean MacRae (now retired) would have been the “hostess with the mostess”, humming her way through the dining room. My mother Heather took charge at the front desk, at least one of my Aunts either Elaine or Lisa would be helping out in one way or another. Now my cousins Andrew & Jayne are on the dishwasher and my husband Mike is in the kitchen. Keep your eyes peeled because  if you see an older gentleman scanning the room &  chatting it up with all the customers or pulling up a chair to join in for dessert– you are pretty safe to assume it’s my grandfather Sterling MacRae.

We enjoy running around and watching as many smiling moms are spoiled on their day. My gift on mother’s day is seeing the look on those faces that says “Ahhhhh , No dishes, no cooking and no need to do anything”…. Maybe we don’t celebrate mother’s day like most families but I for one certainly enjoy our family tradition and love that you join us for yours.
