If you have been to our website or have dropped by you may have noticed that we’re visibly supporting a local athlete. More then just any local athlete, one of our long time employees and grand daughter of founding owners Willie and Thelma Nicholson.
The name Susan Sobey ( daughter of Sandra and Gordie Sobey of Searletown) may sound familiar as she is scare-sly new to the media World. Susan has received Sport PEI awards, was a track star at Dalhousie and a force to be recogned with on the track over the last decade in addition to being named a three-time academic All-Canadian.
Susan was recruited and attended a development camp in Calgary the summer of 2010. She then chose to finished her masters of health administration studies in Halifax before returning to Calgary to join the World of Bobsledding in the summer of 2011. In the Fall of that year, Susan was named Brakewomen to the Canadian Bobsleigh Team. Spending the winter with the National Development Squad competing in The Europa Cup circuit. Since then Susan has been living and training in Calgary Alberta. Her goal is to learn the sport and become yet again a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention make it to the the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
To show our support we are are carrying ” I ♥ Bobsleigh” bracelets in our gift-shop. Price is by donation, with a suggested minimum donation of $5. All funds raised will help cover costs of team fees, training, travel, and equipment for her career on the National Bobsleigh team.
